Research on literature contained in student companion books, in the range of 2024 still does not exist. Meanwhile, research in the use of literature in student companion books is very important to do, as a discussion material with a different scope. Therefore, the research seeks to explore the literature contained in smart Indonesian textbooks in the context of social criticism in its relevance to the character paradigm. The problem that arises in this study is how the influence of social criticism on literature that contains a paradigm of character? The data of this research is in the form of literary text excerpts used in the Student Companion Book. The source of the research data is the smart Indonesian textbook, published by Yudistira, in 2023. Data collection techniques used reading and note-taking techniques. Data analysis used the Miles and Huberman model, including data reduction, data presentation, verification and conclusion. The results showed that the form of 1) social criticism in literature contained in the Student Companion Book, highlighting the problems of women's image, the level of marital happiness, patriarchal culture, politics, community strasification, and education. 2) The character paradigm emphasized is responsibility and empathy. The implication of this research is to provide a new narration of social criticism that can be understood objectively, by involving various scientific fields.
